Mission State or Main Objective of the Department
The City of Baldwin Park's Department of Public Works serves a population of 75,837 residents (Pop. from the 2000 Census) in an area of 6.7 square miles of mixed residential and commercial sectors. The Division is responsible for numerous aspects of the City of Baldwin Park's infrastructure including the maintenance and improvements of public streets.
The mission of the Public Works Department is to preserve, enhance and promote quality of life and public safety through the responsible development of reliable and sustainable infrastructure and services. The members of this Department will at all times strive to exhibit the following qualities:

Overview
The Department of Public Work's services encompass 108 miles of streets; 106 miles of sewers; 8,800 parkway trees; 160 storm drain structures; 27 alleys; street signs; 2,560 street lights; 122 safety lights; and 61 traffic signal Maintenance of the City's 250 curb miles includes street sweeping, curb marking, and curb and gutter repair.
Special projects and programs of the Department of Public Works include the Grass-Recycling Program; Beverage Container Recycling, Used Oil Recycling, Alternate Fuel Vehicles Program; Street Tree Planting Program; and Energy Efficiency Program.
The Department of Public Works is divided into three Divisions; each of which contributes to maintaining and improving the City's infrastructure. The Department also plays a major role in emergency preparedness for the City and in responding to major emergencies; such as rainstorms, flooding, hazardous materials spills, and earthquakes.
