Baldwin Park Police Carry

the “Flame of Hope”

Nineteen members of the Baldwin Park Police Department ran on Thursday, June 7, 2013, while carrying the torch of the 2013 Summer Special Olympics of Southern California.  Since May, officers from local, county, state, federal, and military agencies carried the torch throughout Southern California as part of the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run.  The Special Olympic’s Torch made its way through Baldwin Park when members of the Baldwin Park Polce Department ran 3.1 miles carrying what is known as the “Flame of Hope”.  Three different routes (including the one across Baldwin Park) joined together on
June 9 at the campus of California State University, Long Beach for the 2013 Special Olymppic Games. There the three torches “unified” into a single flame that was used to light the Opening Ceremony cauldron for the Games.

Baldwin Park Police personnel ran from Northwest on Pacific Avenue and then west on Ramona Blvd. They handed off the torch to El Monte Police Department close to the intersection with the Interstate 605 Freeway.
